Due to the production process, using a clear film backing (instead of paper backing) allows us to produce a higher gloss finish. When measured using a gloss meter, the clear film backed vinyl has a gloss level of 65GU (gloss units) which is considered a medium to high gloss finish, where the glossy vinyl with the paper backing has a lower gloss level of 59GU. The printed finish is difficult to show in photographs but can be described as appearing more 'underneath' the gloss finish than our other glossy vinyl product which has the paper backing.
This media is ideal for printing photo quality water-resistant stickers, decals and labels using home inkjet printers. This product is not suitable for laser printers. The media is made from a PP vinyl film and not PVC like other products. PVC contains around 30% by weight of Chlorine and produces toxic fumes if incinerated. PP on the other hand will generate only carbon dioxide and water making it a much more eco friendly product in both production and waste.
There are some considerations before purchasing this product. This particular product has a clear film backing. Some printers (generally the lower end home printers) can struggle to feed the clear backed product correctly. If you are using a Cricut style machine to cut out your stickers (or having trouble with print feed) we strongly recommend the paper backed product. Some Cricut machines can have difficulty with the product slipping while cutting and/or not adhering to the backboard.
